Week 1, Day 7 Devotional — Sunday, December 7, 2025

Theme: The Child Born, the Son Given

A Child is born, a Son is given—Jesus, our Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, fulfilling every promise of God.

Day’s Reading: Isaiah 9:6–7

Key Scriptures

Introduction

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given…” (Isaiah 9:6)

Isaiah spoke prophetically about Jesus many centuries beforw his birth. He spoke of a Child who would be born—and a Son who would be given. The Child speaks of His humanity; the Son speaks of His divinity. Together they reveal the mystery of the incarnation: God becoming man to redeem humanity.

On a quiet night in Bethlehem, this prophecy became reality as the angel declared: “For there is born to you this day… a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10–11)

The Child born is the eternal Son given.

Insight

Isaiah’s prophecy reveals four titles expressing the Messiah’s mission:

• Wonderful Counselor – divine wisdom

• Mighty God – divine power

• Everlasting Father – divine love

• Prince of Peace – divine reconciliation

As J. Alec Motyer notes, “In this Child, all that God is comes to us, and all that we are is lifted to Him.”¹

Bonhoeffer adds, “Only a suffering God can help—and He comes to us helpless and wrapped in swaddling clothes.”²

Reflection

- What does it mean to you that Jesus is both fully God and fully man?

- Which of His names speaks most to you today?

- How can you welcome Christ’s reign more fully into your life?

Strategic Prayer Points

1. Thank God for sending His Son, the promised Messiah.

2. Pray for Christ’s peace to rule your heart and home.

3. Intercede for the world to encounter Jesus as Savior and King.

My Faith Confession

Jesus, You are the Child born and the Son given. You are my Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Final Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for stepping into our world as the promised Child and eternal Son. Reign in me as Counselor, God, Father, and Peace. Amen.

Week 1 Conclusion

Thank you for journeying through Week 1 of this devotional with such openness of heart.

This week revealed the prophetic pathway to Christ—from the Seed of the Woman to the Son of David, from the Virgin’s Son to the Light to the Nations. Every promise finds its fulfillment in Jesus. As you enter the next week, may hope rise in you knowing the same God who fulfilled His promises then will fulfill His purposes in your life.
